When Leonard Innocenzi first started Buffo’s in Highwood, it was not quite the establishment it is today. Once a hotdog stand in 1977, this Highwood institution has changed over the decades to become a family-fast casual restaurant that everyone has grown to love.
Run by longtime employees and family members, Buffo’s has created a welcoming and friendly vibe that keeps their customers happy. With a simple menu and a casual space once occupied by Innocenzi’s grandparents grocery store, Buffo’s keeps Highwood residents and guests returning time and time again.
Buffo’s offers menu items such as hamburgers, hot dogs, Italian beef, Italian sausage, and pasta, but that’s the only the beginning! The real show-stopper, Buffo’s Double Decker pizza, was featured on the WGN series,“Chicago’s Best” in 2017. This delicious and unique pizza dish has brought in guests from all over Illinois to get a taste. “What makes our pizzas so good is the consistency and quality ingredients, which are always fresh,” Innocenzi says.
Offering quality food and service for decades has allowed Buffo's to thrive for over 40 years. In fact, Buffo’s has even received a Mayoral Proclamation to celebrate this major accomplishment and milestone in the City of Highwood! And even after 40 years, Innocenzi has no plans to retire in the near future. “I love all the kids and customers that come here and I’ve become really good friends with a lot of my customers. I’m still having a good time.”
